En el diseño web las identidades digitales se considerancentrales, mientras que el anonimato y los seudónimos sonconsiderados periféricos, marginales, ilícitos y hasta criminales.Por eso, actores influyentes como Google y Facebookprocuran identificar a los usuarios, mientras que sitios webcomo 4chan y Reddit ocupan la posición opuesta, promoviendoformas alternativas de identificación. Ahora bien, eneste estudio observamos que este posicionamiento opuestose vincula a manifestaciones colectivas de gran influenciasocial, como el movimiento ciberactivista Anonymous ynumerosas acciones de hacking y trolling colectivo. Por lotanto, proponemos explorar los procesos que intervienen enla estructuración del anonimato y los seudónimos en la Weba través de una serie de proposiciones en torno a la naturalezadiscursiva de la práctica del diseño web. Así, a partir deestas proposiciones planteamos una primera aproximacióna la definición de la noción —aún vaga— de «diseño websubversivo», diciendo que esta, en esencia, problematiza lasnarrativas normalizadoras y estandarizantes que predominanen la Web. Por lo tanto, sostenemos que el diseño web subversivoconsiste en una serie de estrategias de diseño quesubvierten la norma de diversos modos y que, en consecuencia,tienden a vincularse a manifestaciones discursivas quese construyen fuera y contra el poder.

In web design, digital identities are generally consideredcentral, while anonymity and pseudonyms tend to be regardedas peripheral, marginal, illicit and even criminal. Thatis why influential actors such as Google and Facebook try toput mechanisms of user identification in place, while websiteslike 4chan and Reddit occupy the “opposite position” andpromote alternative forms of identification. This study considershow this “opposite positioning” is linked to collectivemanifestations of great social influence, such as the cyber-activistmovement Anonymous and several other collectivehacking and trolling actions. Therefore, this essay seeks toexplore the processes involved in the structuring of anonymityand pseudonyms within the web, through a series ofpropositions about the discursive nature of web design practices.Taking these propositions as a cue, a first approach todefining the notion of “subversive web design” –by focusingon its potential to question the standardizing narratives thatpredominate on the web– will be put forward. We argue thatsubversive web design consists of a series of design strategiesthat subvert the norm in various ways, and consequentlytend to be linked to discursive manifestations that are constructedoutside and against Power.
