Due to early and continuous contact with Guarani, the Spanish phoneme /y/ changes to /y/ in Corrientes and Asuncion. Currently, äs a result of a second contact Situation, with the Spanish of Buenos Aires, the inhabitants of Corrientes and Resistencia — who have been integrated into national life since the end of the last Century — are tending to adopt the Buenos Aires System. This tendency shows the "rehilamiento" of the /y/ with variants [Z] and [z], and the realization of /// over these "rehiladas" variants. This brings us to "yeismo rehilado" without previous primary "yeismo". Both processes of change, more significant in Resistencia than in Corrientes, are the result of structural and cultural factors that have forced the restructuring of the System.
