The yearning for modernization during the nineteenth century led to large changes that involved the destruction of streets, quarters and buildings interesting for understanding the evolution of the metropolis. The scarcity of historical documentation regarding much of that disappeared heritage and the ignorance of it, make the research from other sources, including urban iconography among others, essential. This article will show the usefulness of the material that some museums hoard for studying architectures destroyed during the nineteenth century, illustrating its value from the analysis of the wall of the city of Pontevedra.
