  • The article focuses on the difference in the relationship between painting and performance. Eleanor Antin's "Representational Painting" invokes illusion as a form of masquerade. The old-fashioned idea of painting as illusion was depicted in the works of Lucy McKenzie by creating painted spaces that mimic the techniques of tropme l'oeil. Painting is a constructed space that allows realism to meet the performative construction of identity seamlessly.
