  • The article profiles Robert Ryman, an artist. He moved from Tennessee to New York City in 1955 to pursue a career as a jazz musician and make a painting. He calls his paintings realist for they open into and often explicitly annex the light, space and walls of the galleries. He used traditional media including casein and oil.
