In this article, the author reflects on the art market in New York City as of January 2012. Particular focus is given to the impact that financial crises in the 21st-century have had had on art sales and prices in the city. Several artists and their work are discussed including Anselm Reyle, André Butzer and Mungo Thomson. The growing financial gap between rich and poor in the U.S. is also noted.
