  El presente artículo se centra en el análisis de la producción plástica que el artista de origen mallorquín, August Ferran y Andrés, desarrolló durante sus años de residencia en La Habana (Cuba), entre 1849 y 1879. Su contribución en el campo de la ilustración satírica y costumbrista, así como en el género de la retratística y el de la pintura religiosa, fue notable. Ello demuestra además el cultivo por parte del artista de los temas y géneros más relevantes de la pintura colonial, y, por tanto, su adaptación al entorno artístico de la Cuba de mediados del siglo XIX

  This essay touches on the works of Majorcan artist August Ferran y Andrés produced during his time in La Habana (Cuba), between 1849 and 1879. He was responsible for an important contribution to satirical and costumbrist illustration as well as to the religious and portrayal genres. The also proofs the artist’s interest in the most relevant subjects and genres of colonial painting and, therefore, his adaptation to the artistic milieu of mid-19th-century Cuba
