El artículo aborda la historia del Hospital de San Juan de Dios, una institución hospitalaria en la ciudad de Aguascalientes. La primera sección del texto ofrece una contextualización histórico-temática, abordando la fundación de instituciones hospitalarias en México, como parte relevante de la colonia. La segunda parte presenta el contexto territorial y social en que se fundaron las primeras instituciones hospitalarias de la población. La tercera parte se centra en el desarrollo de la joven villa de Aguascalientes. Finalmente, las secciones cuarta y quinta abordan lo referente al Hospital de San Juan de Dios, desde su fundación hasta su declive y desaparición.

The article addresses the history of the Hospital of San Juan de Dios, a hospital institution in the city of Aguascalientes. The first section of the text offers a historical-thematic contextualization, addressing the founding of hospital institutions in Mexico, as a relevant part of the colony. The second part presents the territorial and social context in which the first hospital institutions of the population were founded. The third part focuses on the development of the young town of Aguascalientes. Finally, sections four and five deal with the Hospital of San Juan de Dios, from its foundation to its decline and disappearance.
