Innovaciones radicales y progresivas en el manejo del maíz en Calpan, Puebla, México

    El objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar el uso de innovaciones radicales y progresivas empleadas en el manejo del maíz y su impacto en los rendimientos por hectárea. Se aplicó un cuestionario a una muestra de 110 productores de maíz en el municipio de Calpan, se calculó el índice de aplicación de innovaciones radicales (IAIR), el grado de empleo de innovaciones progresivas (GEIP) y se tipificaron a los productores en bajo, medio y alto, según el IAIR y GEIP. Los resultados indican que el promedio del GEIP fue mayor (60.1) que el IAIR (40.2), que existe una relación positiva entre GEIP y rendimientos, pero no así entre el IAIR y rendimientos. Las variables que influyeron positivamente en el IAIR fueron la escolaridad y el nivel de ingresos, mientras que para el GEIP fueron el número de miembros en la familia y la edad del productor.

    The objective of the work was to evaluate the use of radical and progressive innovations used in the management of maize and its impact on yields per hectare. A questionnaire was applied to a sample of 110 maize producers in the municipality of Calpan, the application rate of radical innovations (IAIR), the degree of use of progressive innovations (GEIP) were calculated and they were typified to producers in low, medium and high, according to the IAIR and GEIP. The results indicate that the GEIP average was higher (60.1) than the IAIR (40.2), that there is a positive relationship between GEIP and yields, but not between the IAIR and yields. The variables that had a positive influence on the IAIR were schooling and the level of income, while for the GEIP were the number of members in the family and the age of the producer.
