Resumen de Purgatorio’XXXIII: profezia, missione e purificazione

Beatrice explains to Dante the meaning of the apocalyptic vision that closed the previous Canto: the tree of divine justice broken, the chariot of the Church metamorphosed, half destroyed and eventually dragged far away. Yet, as the beatified woman prophesies, a “God’s messenger” will soon arrive to restore justice and peace on earth. Meanwhile, she tells Dante to write down all he has seen as soon as he returns among the living. The small procession finally arrives at the source from where Lethe and Eunoe spring. Having already drunk the water of Lethe, this time Dante bathes in Eunoe and comes out totally cleansed.

Beatrice spiega a Dante il significato della visione apocalittica che ha chiuso il canto precedente: albero della giustizia divina schiantato, carro della Chiesa metamorfizzato e semidistrutto e infine trascinato lontano. Ma presto, profetizza la beata, verrà un «messo di Dio» che riporterà giustizia e pace sulla terra. Intanto ordina a Dante di scrivere, quando sarà tornato tra i vivi, tutto ciò che ha visto. Il piccolo corteo giunge, infine, presso la sorgente da cui scaturiscono i fiumi Letè ed Eunoè. Dante, che ha già bevuto l’acqua del Letè, si immerge ora nell’Eunoè e ne esce definitivamente purificato.
