L’ «animal coverto» e le luminose crisalidi del ‘Paradiso’

    Este artículo analiza el notorio símil del animal coverto en Paradiso XXVI, dentro del contexto de la representación visual de la tercera cantica y de su relación con un lenguaje interior (verbum interius) que la atraviesa. Luego de presentar un recorrido histórico por los aspectos exegéticos más notables que aparecen en los comentarios a la Commedia, el texto expone la propia propuesta interpretativa, que relaciona el símil con las luminosas crisálidas de los beatos en Paradiso. Hacia el final del artículo se menciona el posible vínculo entre el animal coverto y aspectos centrales de Paradiso XXVI, como la virtud teologal de la caridad y su lenguaje interior, la idea de un “dentro”, y la presencia permanente de la Resurrección.

    The article deals with the famous simile of the animal coverto in Paradise XXVI, placed in the context of Paradise’s visual representation and its relationship with a pervasive interior language (verbum interius). After presenting a historical view of the most remarkable exegetical elements that appear in different commentaries on the Comedy, the article develops its own interpretation. The core of the exegetical proposal is the probable link between the simile and the illuminated chrysalides of the blessed in Paradise. Towards the end, it is mentioned the possible relationship between the animal coverto and certain key aspects of Paradise 26, such as the theological virtue of charity and its inner language, the idea of an ‘inside’, and the all-encompassing presence of the Resurrection throughout the third cantica.
