The conceptual model of a course for improving the performance of design teams in practice is presented, and the feedbackbased on its implementation is described, and explored. The model was based on several years of experimental, theoreticaland field research on designers and the design process by designers. During the implementation we experienced severalinstances of personal transformation by students in the class which were unanticipated and led us to question our identityas modern day designers. The paper concludes by exploring alternative models of what it means to be human, and bystressing the need to pay greater attention to the internal experiences of students in design classes.
