This article analyses the way that natural heritage and natural public assets are intertwined as techniques of protection of the same general interest: environmental protection. It can be noted that natural heritage, as a way of expression of public interest, acts on both public and private property; traditional public usage assets are, nonetheless, at the core of this regulation, the means by which they are protected and governed, by the administration and the judges in Colombia, are expressive of new and better ways to protect the environment.
