    Este estudo aborda as redes de socialização letrada constituídas por intelectuais brasileiros e portugueses no final do século XIX. Trato aqui, especialmente, da interlocução estabelecida entre Eduardo Prado (1860-1901), Eça de Queirós (1845-1900) e Ramalho Ortigão (1836-1915), buscando compreender como esses autores trataram os temas da temporalidade moderna e da função social das letras. Analisando, sobretudo, a correspondência desses três escritores, percebo que nas suas conversas privadas, eles estavam sensibilizados pela combinação de valores conservadores com princípios republicanos. Por isso, neste estudo, examino os textos escritos Eduardo Prado, Eça de Queirós e Ramalho Ortigão à luz dos repertórios conservador e republicano, ambos fundamentais para as linguagens políticas modernas.

    This study deals with the lettered socialization networks made up of Brazilian and Portuguese intellectuals in the late nineteenth century. I treat here, especially the established dialogue between Eduardo Prado (1860-1901), Eca de Queiros (1845-1900) and Ramalho Ortigão (1836-1915), trying to understand how that scholars have addressed the issues of modern temporality and the social function of letters. Analyzing, above all, the correspondence of these three writers, I realize that in their private conversations they were sensitized by the combination of constitutive values of the conservative and republican repertoires, that throughout the nineteenth century consolidated as criticisms of the model of society created in illustration. Therefore, in this study, I examine how Eduardo Prado, Eça de Queirós and Ramalho Ortigão appropriated these two traditions and verbalized the anxieties that at that moment disturbed part of the Portuguese-Brazilian intelligentsia.
