For the first time, human hairs have been grown from specialized skin cells that can be multiplied to potentially create a full head of hair. The secret is in the way the hair is grown. By culturing the cells in a 3D rather than 2D system, Cohn Jahoda at Durham University in UK and colleagues have managed to produce multiple dermal papillae that retain their specialized abilities.
