Resumen de Séneca e as artes liberais

Based on the Greek and Latin tradition, this study seeks to reflect on the importance of the liberal arts in the work of Seneca, but, in contrast to what has been verified, it is not restricted to the analysis of the famous Ep. 88, but rather takes into consideration the whole work of Seneca. In line with the Stoic tradition, Seneca criticizes those who dedicate themselves to liberal studies for vanity and maintains that these should be at the service of philosophy and the art of living according to nature.

Com base na tradição grega e latina, procura este estudo refletir sobre a importância das artes liberais na obra de Séneca, mas, em contraste com o que se tem verificado, não se restringe à análise da famosa Ep. 88, antes toma em consideração toda a obra de Séneca. Em linha com a tradição estoica, critica Séneca quantos se dedicam aos estudos liberais por vaidade e sustenta que os referidos estudos devem estar ao serviço da filosofia e da arte de viver de acordo com a natureza.
