  Initiated in 2005, the “Núcleo de Pesquisa dos Exvotos” project focuses on the Miracle Halls receiving ex-votos in shrines from Brazil to the southern United States. The analysis of the hanging and display devices reveals how social and collective memory is made up of objects that witness lives and devotions, whose functioning rests on the interaction of a sick body, that of man, with a healing body, that of divine power. If it makes it possible to apprehend the votive object in its diversity thanks to the formal categories it establishes, its exhibition also manifests its informative and communicational dimension. The Hall of Miracles spatializes and thus shows a collective history of men, constituted from individual testimonies about their evils and their beliefs.

  Initié en 2005, le projet “Núcleo de Pesquisa dos Exvotos” porte sur les Salles des Miracles recevant les ex-voto dans les sanctuaires, depuis le Brésil jusqu'au Sud des États-Unis. L'analyse des dispositifs d'accrochage et de monstration révèle comment la mémoire sociale et collective est constituée d'objets témoins de vies et de dévotions, dont le fonctionnement repose sur l'interaction d’un corps malade, celui de l’homme, avec un corps guérisseur, celui de la puissance divine. Si elle permet d'appréhender l'objet votif dans sa diversité grâce aux catégories formelles qu'elle établit, son exposition manifeste également sa dimension informative et communicationnelle. La Salle des Miracles spatialise et donne ainsi à voir une histoire collective des hommes, constituée à partir de témoignages individuels sur leurs maux et leurs croyances.
