This essay addresses the focus on exemplars, imagination, affect and democracy at the heart of Ferrara’s democratic vision. It argues that Ferrara’s account of politics represents an important but incomplete step towards an understanding of “politics at its best” and the developing Ferrara’s account helps to support his arguments on hyperpluralism and to indicate ways of extending his analysis.
