The article is composed of two parts. The first is devoted to a survey of past Labour history. The second part focuses on two lines of research developed in recent years: the rise of "Global Labour history", with its proposal to adopt new methodologies and fresh points of view in Labour histories; and the emphasis laid on social rights and welfare systems
