Resumen de Le firme degli architetti nel XII e XIII secolo nell’architettura turco-selgiuchide in Anatolia

Sevda Atak

  • In the Seljuk architecture the habit of recording the name of architects in small panels or enormous decorative wall inscriptions reveals important information about the world of construction in the Anatolia of the 12th and the 13th centuries. By means of these direct evidences it is possible to study master’s professionals itineraries and the exchange of ideas, knowledge, project models that were created in a prosperous and dynamic cultural context, giving essential cues to understand these masterpieces. What is most surprising about this phenomenon is the appearance of master’s names sometimes next to their clients’ name. This circumstance reveals the prestige of a profession that, as other cues confirm, received a high degree of consideration and admiration even at the highest level of the social hierarchy.
