La alhóndiga de Villanueva de los Infantes (Ciudad Real) es uno de los edificios más interesantes de la arquitectura civil que se conserva del Renacimiento; una institución municipal que no ha sido objeto de estudio ni por el valor de su estructura y ornato ni por la función en el abastecimiento de la villa. Se intenta estudiar la evolución de las distintas funciones a través del tiempo: alhóndiga, pósito, cárcel, actualmente casa de cultura.
Se intenta reconstruir un relato del posible origen y construcción; relacionando las breves referencias documentales y bibliográficas con descripciones y estudios de otras alhóndigas, pósitos, etc. Las formas de construir y las normas de funcionamiento no difieren mucho de una villa a otra regida bajo la jurisdicción de la Orden de Santiago. Una lectura interpretativa, compleja de un valor singular en La Mancha

The Corn Exchange of Villanueva de los Infantes (Ciudad Real) is one of the most interesting buildings of the civil architecture remaining from the Renaissance. It is a municipal institution which has been studied for the value of its structure and decoration nor for the function in supplying this small town. The purpose of this work is to study how this building has changed its functions through the time: from a Corn Exchange, a Municipal Warehouse and a prison to a Cultural Center in our current times.
The objective is to make an attempt to reconstruct the story of its origin and construction- connecting the documentary and bibliographical references with some descriptions and studies of other corn exchanges and municipal warehouses. The ways to build and the operating rules do not differ from one town to another under the jurisdiction of the Orden de Santiago. This is an interpretative reading full of questions with a singular value in La Mancha
