  • Resumen
    • The church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane and the adjoining cloister—one of the most significant of Francesco Borromini—the trait d’union of utility in function, solidity in static beauty aesthetics have been subject during the years, of innumerable and authoritative studies also conducted on the basis of conventional surveys; they, however, deserve further attention, also in relation to the convent complex to be considered in its entirety (church, cloister, convent). To that end, in the last year, a research has started in which the analysis of the archive records of the Order, still largely unpublished, has been accompanied by an intense digital survey activity with the production of a large number of three-dimensional models as well as of the complex corpus of graphs needed to understand/communicate the typological and functional size and articulation, and geometric-formal of the various parts of the complex. The first results of the research motivate this communication. The research for the finding of the underlined geometries—even in the three dimensional configurations—and the investigation of their peculiarities and their adherence to the knowledge of time and place was one of the most important objectives in the process of investigation and knowledge of “Fabrica”.
