Hodson talks about how robots could slash the cost of solar power. Solar power is booming, more than doubling to some 100 gigawatts of capacity worldwide between 2010 and 2012. Roboticists are getting in on the act, seeing opportunities to boost efficiencies in a young industry. One robot can tend about 1,200 solar panels--roughly 300 kilowatts--on its own. Having a robot do this avoids the need for expensive tracking structures to keep the panels moving throughout the day.
