    Fueron numerosos los republicanos españoles que lucharon en Francia contra los nazis y los colaboracionistas del Régimen de Vichy. Uno de ellos fue Luis Ortiz de la Torre, ingeniero de profesión, que tras terminar la Guerra Civil como capitán del Ejército republicano y exiliarse en el país vecino, participó de manera activa en la Resistencia. Después de contribuir a la liberación de Francia, regresó a España para combatir la dictadura franquista, pero no tuvo éxito. Pese a tener varias condecoraciones y dar su vida por una sociedad más justa, Luis Ortiz es un completo desconocido tanto en su ciudad natal, Astillero (Cantabria), como en Puertollano (Ciudad Real), donde fue abatido en enero de 1947.

    There were many Spanish Republicans who fought in France against the Nazis and the collaborationist of the Vichy Regime. One of them was Luis Ortiz de la Torre, an engineer by profession, who after finishing the Civil War as captain of the Republican Army and exiled in the neighbouring country, he participated actively in the Resistance. After contributing to the liberation of France, he returned to Spain to fight the Franco dictatorship but was unsuccessful. Despite having several medals and giving his life for a more just society, Luis Ortiz is a complete stranger both in his hometown, Astillero (Cantabria) and in Puertollano (Ciudad Real), where he was killed in January 1947.
