Resumen de 'Wenn du so auf der Autobahn unterwegs bist und den Sender dann wieder reinkriegst und diese bekannten Stimmen hörst, das ist ein Stück Heimat'

Maria Luise Gebauer

  • Radio presentation is one of the most important elements for the individual identity of broadcast stations. The aim of this qualitative study is the investigation of the listeners’ descriptions and evaluations of familiar broadcast presentations while listening to them. The study is based on the following research questions: What are fundamental aspects for naïve listeners while perceiving radio presentation? Which categories of answers can be clustered by reference to the listeners’ descriptions? The data of the study is composed of 27 short recordings of authentic radio presentations extracted from four German morning shows (broadcast stations: MDR Sputnik, MDR Figaro). In qualitative interviews, 20 listeners (ten listeners for each broadcast station) described their opinions and feelings concerning the radio presentation while listening to it. Afterwards the interviews were scripted via “praat”. Based on the scripts, a cluster was developed, which arranged the listeners’ answers in semantic categories. The analysis of the interviews offered a wide variety with regard to the results: The listeners’ descriptions and evaluations of the familiar radio presentations were impressively multifaceted. The categories labelled in the interviews include the following aspects: 1. Diction (lexis, syntax and content), 2. Speech style / Intonation (voice quality, accentuation, articulation, speech rate, tension / muscle tone), 3. The presenter’s character (attitude, atmosphere, authenticity, character and appearance), 4. Radio format (music genre, music bed, change of broadcast elements, target group, audience, broadcast programme).
