Promover un acercamiento al mundo autista conlleva indagar en los fundamentos empíricos sobre los que se sustentan los conocimientos que hoy poseemos del colectivo autista. Saber a qué nos enfrentamos ante este trastorno, conocer las causas y las intervenciones de mejora del colectivo, son los objetivos del presente artículo. Los niños y niñas autistas presentan una serie de características comunes dentro de su perfil individual que nos ayudarán a comprender al alumnado, involucrarnos y a actuar positivamente sobre él, promoviendo en todo momento su desarrollo pleno.
