The present article tries to develop a critical examination of traditional interpretation concerning the concept of phýsis as “rising” and its posterior identification with the idea of “nature” understood as a stable and solid whole in which is contained the totality of all that exists. Through such a philosophical as well as linguistic analysis, we try to show the derived nature of such an interpretation, as well as the underlying motivations that have given rise to it from an historical point of view.
