Through Oil Spill Model and Response System (OILMAP) and the Island Response and Operations System against Ocean Pollutants, in Spanish Sistema Insular de Respuesta y Operaciones Ante Contaminantes Oceánicos (SIROCO) it is possible to reproduce and analyse the behaviour and evolution of pollutant spills in the sea. This efficient planning and response system can be used operationally in emergency situations and for the planning of response to an oil slick. The present study analyzes the possible consequences derived from hypothetical accidental spills due to oil prospecting and drilling that affect the littoral of the Canary Islands.
