Diego Torres Bollo fue el primer Provincial de la Asistencia jesuítica de Paraguay y quien inició el reconocido programa de reducciones de los indígenas guaraníes. Esta fundación ocurrida en el año 1607 fue el resultado de un intenso debate interno sobre la redefinición de las tareas de que tenían ocuparse los jesuitas en tierras americanas, que debía intentar conciliar exigencias y necesidades cruzadas del papado y la monarquía hispana.

Diego Torres Bollo was the first Provincial of the Jesuit Assistance of Paraguay and who initiated the recognized program of reductions of the Guarani Indians. This founding in 1607 was the result of an intense internal debate about the redefinition of the tasks that the Jesuits should occupy in American lands, with the goal of reconcile the demands and cross-needs of the papacy and the Spanish monarchy.
