Las variaciones en el flujo migratorio en el Mediterráneo Central y Oriental y su efecto en el Mediterráneo Occidental

    A partir del verano de 2017 se ha producido un importante incremento de las llegadas de migrantes a las costas españolas, que se ha prolongado durante todo el segundo semestre. Casi simultáneamente, las llegadas a Italia por el Mediterráneo Central, la principal ruta migratoria hacia Europa en los últimos años, se han reducido de forma drástica. La búsqueda de una relación entre lo ocurrido en estas dos rutas de entrada por mar en Europa es el motivo del presente trabajo. Por su posible influencia, se hace necesario tener en cuenta también la ruta oriental. Por ello, se analizarán los datos y estadísticas disponibles en las tres rutas principales, la occidental, la central y la oriental, para establecer las posibles relaciones entre la evolución que han sufrido los flujos migratorios en el Mediterráneo en los últimos años. En primer lugar, se estudiarán las estadísticas generales para obtener una primera aproximación de las variaciones que se han producido y se buscarán las posibles causas de la repentina reducción de las salidas en el Mediterráneo Central. Seguidamente se analizarán las características principales de la migración en las tres rutas, haciendo una comparación entre ellas, tras lo que se desglosarán las estadísticas por nacionalidades y regiones de origen comparando su evolución en el tiempo. Por último, se expondrán unas conclusiones y se propondrán posibles futuras líneas de investigación.

    Since summer 2017, there has been a significant increase in the number of migrant arrivals in the Spanish coasts. At the same time, arrivals in Italy in the Central Mediterranean, the main migratory route to Europe during the last years, have severely decreased. The search for a link between what is happening in both sea routes to Europe is the objective of this paper. It is also necessary to take into account the Eastern route, due to its possible influence on the other routes. Therefore, available data and statistics on the Western, Central and Eastern routes will be analyzed in order to establish a possible connection between the different migratory flows in the Mediterranean these last years. First, general statistics will be studied to obtain an approach of the evolution and changes that have happened recently, looking for the possible causes of the sudden reduction in the departure of migrants in the Central Mediterranean. Then the main characteristics of the three routes will be analyzed, comparing them before looking into the statistics of nationalities and regions of origin, in order to compare the evolution of the migration flows over time. Finally, after presenting the conclusions, possible future lines of investigation will be proposed.
