O Bispo emérito de Novo Hamburgo, RS, Dom Frei Boaventura, lastreado na sabedoria acumulada em mais de oitenta anos de jornada terrestre e sintonizado com o tema da Campanha da Fraternidade de 2003 – Fraternidade e as Pessoas Idosas – reflete sobre o sentido da velhice. Lembra alguns pontos fundamentais da doutrina cristã – sobretudo o plano eterno de Deus que chama a criatura humana a participar da natureza divina e ganhar a vida eterna – verdades que podem confortar a pessoa idosa, preocupada com seus achaques e com a iminência da prestação de contas ao Criador, e termina com esta verdade consoladora: Se com Cristo morremos, com Cristo viveremos; se com Cristo sofremos, com Cristo reinaremos (2Tm 2,11-12).Abstract: The Bishop emeritus of Novo Hamburgo, RS, Dom Friar Boaventura, helped by the wisdom accumulated in more than eighty years on this earth and in tune with the theme of the 2003 Fraternity Campaign – Fraternity and the Aged – reflects upon the meaning of old age. He remembers some of the basic arguments of the Christian doctrine – in particular God’s eternal plan that invites the human creature to participate in the divine nature and to gain eternal life – truths that can help to bring comfort to the elderly person, worried about his/her chronic ailments and about the imminence of having to render accounts to the Creator. The paper ends with this comforting truth: if we die with Christ, we will live with Christ; if we suffer with Christ, we will reign with Christ (2Tm 2,11-12).
