To have recourse to Greek as a mean of explaining the grammatical categories of Latin was quite common among Latin grammarians. This can be clearly shown in the remarks they make about the gender of nouns, something that in many cases helps to confirm a rule or justify an exception. An analysis of this approach, which points out similarities or differences between the grammatical gender of these two languages, leads us to conclude that Latin grammarians, unlike their Greek colleagues, use a totally new model of description.
