The work of the sociologist and philosopher Lefebvre (1901-1991) has recently seen a re-newed diffusion both in French urban studies and in the English-speaking social sciences (Busquet, 2012). In this reinterpretation process, the author’s ideas have sometimes undergone a weakening of the visionary and emancipatory capacity that characterizes them, thus obscur-ing, or simply leaving some key elements in the background. The present paper intends to em-phasize these elements re-reading of the concept of utopia within Lefebvre’s work while ex-ploring possible connections with recent attempts to rehabilitate the term.
