El Proyecto del Cuartel de Infantería de Lorca fue realizado por el teniente coronel de Ingenieros Manuel García Díaz en 1919. La experiencia constructiva del ingeniero, que culminó en este gran complejo de edificios militares, modelo de su época, había estado precedida de importantes proyectos de fortificaciones de defensa e infraestructuras en las guerras de Cuba y de África y, a partir del año 1918 en la Comandancia de Cartagena. Su brillante carrera militar le llevó a alcanzar el grado de general de brigada en 1928, pasando a la situación de reserva en 1931.

The Infantry Headquarters’ project was carried out by the Lieutenant Colonel of Engineers Mr. Manuel García Díaz in 1919. The engineer’s constructive experience, which culminated in this great military complex of buildings as a model for its epoch, had been preceded by various important projects of defensive fortifications and infrastructures in the Cuban and African wars, and, in the Command Headquarters of Cartagena since 1918. He achieved the position of Brigadier General in 1928 because of his excellent career in the military, and he reached military retirement in 1931.
