    En el aprendizaje de un segundo idioma es común pretender tener acento nativo.

    Esto acarrea grandes frustraciones y consecuencias negativas, por un lado, en la apreciación que de sí mismos tienen los hablantes no nativos que exhiben acento extranjero; y por otro, el rechazo continuo de oyentes prejuiciosos que no toleran las diferencias acentuales de otros hablantes. Afortunadamente, las nuevas tendencias en la enseñanza de idiomas y los beneficios que ha traído consigo el fenómeno de la globalización, refuerzan la idea de que los rasgos acentuales de cualquier hablante son totalmente normales. Por ello, es propósito primordial de este escrito resaltar la importancia que conlleva respetar la individualidad de cada hablante, enaltecer las diferencias interculturales y fomentar las bases de una educación que lejos de fragmentar social y comunicacionalmente a los hablantes, afirme las bases sobre la comprensión y aceptación de una comunicación caracterizada por la tolerancia, la inteligibilidad y la asertividad

    It is a common wish to acquire a native accent when learning a second language.

    This causes great frustrations and negative consequences, on one side, in the selfappreciation that accented non-native speakers have about themselves; and on the other side, the continuous rejection from prejudiced listeners who do not tolerate the accentual differences of other speakers. Fortunately, the new tendencies in language education and the benefits offered by the globalization phenomenon, lead us to reinforce the premise that the accentual traits of any speaker are totally normal. For this reason, the primary aim of this essay is to highlight the importance of respecting the individuality of every speaker, to praise the intercultural differences and to promote the bases of an education that does not break up social or communicational interaction, but that leads us to the comprehension and acceptance of a type of communication which is characterized by tolerance, intelligibility and
