Reinvención y distanciamiento de la realidad en el pensamiento literario y la narrativa de Carlos Pujol

    Con el propósito de contribuir a la comprensión de la síntesis y creativa reformulación del realismo decimonónico que realiza el escritor, crÍtico y traductor Carlos Pujol (1936–2012) nos proponemos aquí abordar un aspecto de su pensamiento literario y ver cómo se refleja en su obra narrativa. Se trata, en primer lugar, de dilucidar su revisión crítica del vínculo entre literatura y realidad propugnado por el realismo francés y comprender un replanteamiento que le lleva a defender que la literatura no puede ni debe pretender ser espejo de la realidad, sino que ha de aspirar a ser una obra de arte que invente una nueva realidad y aporte una verdad más profunda. En segundo lugar, se analizan dos recursos de su narrativa que contribuyen a relativizar la pretensión de representar lo real con objetividad y son, en este sentido, estrategias de distanciamiento de la realidad: la focalización narrativa y la ironía. Para alcanzar estos objetivos, se examina su obra narrativa y la poética explícita que el autor formula de forma dispersa en ensayos, aforismos y entrevistas.

    With the intention of contributing to the understanding of the synthesis and creative recapitulation of nineteenth-century realism made by the writer, critic, and translator Carlos Pujol (1936–2012), I address an aspect of his literary thought and see how it is reflected in his narrative work. The first step is to examine his critique of the relationship between literature and reality as advocated by French realism, and to understand his new approach which defends the argument that literature cannot and must not attempt to be a mirror of reality, but instead must become art, creating a new reality and providing a deeper truth. Second, I analyse two of Pujol’s narrative tools, narrative focalization and irony which, while they contribute to relativizing the attempt to represent reality in an objective way, can also be seen as strategies for disengaging from reality. In order to pursue these two goals, I will explore Pujol’s narrative work and the explicit poetics the author formulates in a fragmented way in essays, aphorisms, and interviews.
