  • According to Energy Digital’s Global Energy Talent Index, women still only account for 10% of the industry’s global workforce. The energy sector’s apparent lack of female representation is so stark that it is in danger of hampering global effort to curb climate change, so Catherine Mitchell, professor of energy policy at the University of Exeter, told the Guardian last year. Given its recent evidence of sustainable energy policy-making, her home nation is a fitting setting for the three-day event, states Al Shamsi, who was project manager for Abu Dhabi’s successful candidacy. With exploration projects of this nature set to proliferate, Al Shamsi is right in her invocation for greater research into making fossil fuels cleaner, as they look set to remain in the global energy mix for some time to come.
