The aims in this study was test the genetic discernment among five goats populations of the Republic of Cape Verde (n=533) by biometric data and statistical analysis. It were analysed 16 characteristics in adult goats, through descriptive statistics, analysis of variance, test for multicollinearity, Mahalanobis distance (D²) and UPGMA algorithm (Unweighted Pair Group Method Arithmetic Mean). After the test of multicollinearity was identified and discarded the variable thoracic depth. The D² were calculated using 15 biometric measurements. The maximum value of D² was between the populations of the islands of Fire and São Nicolau (22.73), and D² was lower between Santo Antão and São Vicente (3.71). The dendrogram based on biometric data in five populations put the goats on the Fire Island in other branch. Clustered in one the branch the goats from the islands of Santo Antão and São Vicente. This result is consistent with the geographic distance among the islands of Cape Verde and the recent history of exchange of animals among them.
