Starting from the notion of «industrial reserve army», developed by Marx in the 23rd chapter of "The Capital" 's first book, the article discusses the implications of the Marxian analysis from the perspective of international economy, addressing the problem of the limits of demand for production as well as the role of the State vis-à-vis class conflict.
