The literature about embracement, within Brazilian public health, defines it as an element responsible for the reorganization of health services, promotion of the guarantee of access and creation of links. It underlies the discussions of the integrality in care and humanization in relation between health employers and users, two principles of the Brazilian health policy, materialized through the Unified Health System - SUS. The objective of this study is bringing to the forefront and analyzing the scientific outputs regarding this theme in the field of public health and to identify the operationalization of embracement in the Social Work practice, highlighting its special features among the interdisciplinary work. The research was exploratory, of a qualitative nature and with a universe formed by social workers, from public state hospitals, located in a city in Southern Brazil. The data shows that embracement is part of the intervention process of social workers and focuses on allowing access to rights, the creation of links and the understanding of elements to plan a future intervention. However, it is considered that the theme is not new for Social Work. Palavras-chave / KeywordsAcolhimento, Saúde pública, Serviço social, Ação profissional.Embracement, Public health, Social work, Professional intervention.
