    Se presenta la problemática de las corrientes migratorias italiana y portuguesa a Venezuela.Después de la reseña histórica, se procede a analizar las características de éstas: personajesdestacados, razones para emigrar, edad, situación familiar, picos y descensos en el flujomigratorio. Luego, se discuten sus aportes a la vida nacional venezolana y se presentan lasmaneras de conservar el legado lingüístico-cultural originario en el suelo del país receptor.Finalmente, se resumen y se comparan las contribuciones respectivas y se concluye que loscambios generados a raíz de la inmigración son bidireccionales y afectan también a la sociedadde acogida.

    The article deals with Italian and Portuguese migrations to Venezuela. After a brief historicaloverview, the characteristics of these migrations are analyzed: prominent personalities, reasonsfor emigration, age, family situation of immigrants, peaks and declines in migratory flows. Thentheir contribution to the Venezuelan national life is discussed and the ways to preserve theirlinguistic and cultural legacy in the territory of the host country are presented. Finally,their respective contributions are summed up and it is concluded that changes originated as aresult of immigration process are bidirectional and concern the host society as well.
