El tiempo lineal burgués ha constituido la forma hegemónica de pensar históricamente a Chile desde el siglo XIX. Esta forma de pensar la historia, que las elites han naturalizado, sólo pudo instalarse a partir de las empresas económicas y militares del siglo XIX, especialmente tras las guerras del salitre, que incluyen las conquistas del territorio minero, el derrocamiento del presidente Balmaceda y las represiones a los trabajadores salitreros a principios del siglo XX. Este tiempo lineal burgués terminó por reinventarse en el siglo pasado tras el golpe de Estado de 1973 como una reedición de las gestas bélicas decimonónicas. A pesar de toda su parafernalia, la vida histórica de Chile resiente las consecuencias de este régimen lineal que deshumaniza tanto a las elites privilegiadas como a la inmensa mayoría del pueblo.

Bourgeois linear time has been the hegemonic way of thinking about Chile throughout history, since the 19th century. This way of thinking of history, an approach naturalized by elites, could only be established by economic and military enterprises in the 19th century, especially in the wake of the saltpeter wars, including the takeover of mining territories, President Balmaceda ousting, and repression on saltpeter workers at the onset of the 20th century. This bourgeois linear time ended up by being reinvented in the earlier century after the coup d’état in 1973, as a re-edition of the 19th century war exploits. Despite all ofits paraphernalia, Chile’s historic life endures the consequences of that linear time regime, dehumanizing both privileged elites and the huge majority of people
