En este comentario, su autora plantea que no es evidente que Fidel Castro haya venido a Chile en 1971 a apoyar la vía chilena al socialismo, pues, en el contexto de la Guerra Fría, el triunfo de este modelo habría significado el fracaso del modelo cubano. Conjetura, sin embargo, que es posible que la permanencia de Castro, con su visita a bases militares, haya tenido por finalidad que Chile cambiara su fuente de abastecimiento militar, hacia una provisión soviética.

The author of this commentary argues that it is not obvious that Fidel Castro travelled to Chile in 1971 to support the Chilean way to socialism, since in the context of the Cold War the triumph of this model would have meant the failure of the Cuban one. She surmises, though, that Castro’s stay and his visits to military bases might have been aimed at inducing Chile to switch to the Soviet Union as its military supplier
