Breve explicación del panorama en que repunta el género biográfico en la transición del siglo XX al XXI, según lo planteado por Leon Edel y François Dosse. Con este antecedente, luego se trazan las circunstancias propias en que se desarrolla este fenómeno con la academia mexicana. Con tales escenarios delineados, se pretende precisar lo que ahora se busca, el cómo se indaga, el a través de qué fuentes se realiza y, sobre todo, el para qué se lleva a cabo esta biografía impulsada por historiadores, los que primero son científicos sociales. ¿Hay causa científica o permea una moda de tono literario? ¿Cuál es la propuesta heurística?

Brief explanation of the panorama in which the biographical genre picks up in the transition from the 20th to the 21st century, as proposed by Leon Edel and François Dosse. With this background, the specific circumstances in which this phenomenon develops with the Mexican academy are traced. With such outlined scenarios, it is intended to specify what is sought now, how it is investigated, what sources it is made and, above all, why this biography is carried out by historians, who are first social scientists. Is there a scientific cause or does it permeate a literary tone? What is the heuristic proposal?
