The University of Bristol’s Thinking Science resources are linked to the key stage 3 curriculum and were co-produced with science teachers. They are designed to provoke thinking and discussion, and to consolidate and extend core curriculum knowledge and understanding by drawing upon research in philosophy of science. The resources take students beyond the conception of science education as learning facts and theories by engaging them with conceptual, ethical and social issues that concern all citizens, as well as future scientists. This article shares practical ideas for using the resources in the classroom and introduces facilitation techniques to support philosophical thinking and discussion in the science classroom.
