En Chile se ha reducido la participación electoral poco menos de 50% desde la elección de 1989 que dio fin a la dictadura militar. De 1989 a 2009, la participación pasó de 84.2 a 59.6 por ciento. Posteriormente, aprobado el voto voluntario, en la primera vuelta de la elección presidencial de 2013 la participación fue de 49%, mientras que en la segunda vuelta Michelle Bachelet llegó a la presidencia con una participación total de 42 por ciento. En ese marco, el objetivo de este artículo es analizar los principales determinantes del voto en el proceso electoral de 2013 para elegir al presidente de Chile, enfocándose en el efecto de la cohorte generacional. Dicho objetivo se logrará a partir del análisis de las probabilidades estimadas de votar por alguno de los candidatos según la cohorte generacional, mediante dos modelos de regresión: logístico y logístico multinomial

The voter turnout in Chile has declined by almost 50% since the end the military dictatorship in 1989. From 1989 to 2009 the voter turnout decreased from 84.2% to 59.6%. Subsequently, once enacted the voluntary vote, in the first round of the 2013 presidential election the turnout was 49%, while in the second round Michelle Bachelet was elected with a turnout of 42%. In this context, the aim of this article is to analyze the main determinants of the voter turnout in the 2013 Chilean presidential election, focusing on the effect of the generational cohort. This objective will be achieved by analyzing the estimated probabilities of voting for any of the candidates according to the generational cohort, using two regression models: logistic and multinomial logistic
