L’examen des inscriptions du IIIe siècle se rapportant aux procurateurs équestres intervenant à Ostie et au Portus pourrait conduire à une réévaluation du cadre administratif, le site du Portus devenant le siège principal, entraînant la modification de l’intitulé de la fonction de procurateur annonae ou ad annonam. Sallustius Saturninus et Orfitus (CIL XIV, 4285) doivent être considérés comme procurateurs de l’annone à Ostie, unis par la collégialité inégale. Le cursus de L. Mussius Aemilianus témoignerait de cette évolution vers le milieu du IIIe siècle.

Procurator annonae and procurator utriusque portus in the third century: an evolution toward a unique function? A closer analysis of the epigraphic evidence from the third cent. A.D. related to the equestrian procurators operating at Ostia and Portus could lead to a revaluation of the administrative frame, since the transfer of the head office in Portus could have had as a consequence the change the procurator annonae or ad annonam’s title. Sallustius Saturninus and Orfitus (CIL XIV, 4285) must be considered as procurators of the Annona at Ostia, linked together by an unequal collegiality; L. Mussius Aemilianus’ cursus could be a testimony of this evolution in the middle of the third cent. A.D.
