Rotación de la falla de Padul (Granada) durante el Cuaternario

    • During the Quaternary, the central sector of the Betic Cordillera (southern Spain) has been subjected to NE-SW extension which has produced normal faults of various strikes. A series of NW-SE faults stand out, one of which is the Padul normal fault. Extension is accompanied by a process of rotation, responsible for: a) the coexistence of high-angle and low-angle fault planes, dipping between 20B and 70Q, b) the morphology of the mountain front characterised by a segmented topographic profile, c) the active scarps of the Padul fault are mainly situated in the alluvial sediments of the hanging wall and not in the contact with the Alpujarride basement, d) the back-tilting towards the NE o f sediments associated with the fault and e) the formation of the asymmetric extensional basin in the hanging wall of the Padul fault.
