  • Resumen
    • Experimental deformation o f mechanically anisotropic rock analogues leads to the development of banded instabilities. The model material consists on plasticine and the anisotropy is created by the preferred orientation o f paper-flakes. Under a coaxial shortening orthogonal to the anisotropy, two sets o f conjugate shear zones form symmetrically at about 45° with regard to the maximum shortening direction. The nucléation and growth of the firsts perturbations leads to a softening evidenced followed by a sudden drop in stress. Progression of the deformation bands occurs in a sequential way. The analysis o f the evolution of strain distribution reveals the existence o f a complex strain pattern involving deviation from the simple shear model and a slight internal deformation o f the less deformed lozenges.
