La figura de Descartes no se incluye entre los pensadores políticos de la Modernidad, a pesar de que se lo considera el iniciador del período. En el trabajo sepresentan algunas razones que avalan esta exclusión, pero también otras que intentancorregirla ya que opinamos que se puede leer en el filósofo francés tanto un proyectosocio-político, que estimamos ha sido exitoso en la aceptación, como un fundamentopara la vida colectiva, muy coherente con el resto de su pensamiento pero que sedistancia de las propuestas que tradicionalmente se tratan en la filosofía políticamoderna.

Descartes is not included among the political thinkers of the Modernity, although he is considered the founder of the period. In this paper some reasons are presented that endorse this exclusion, but also others that try to correct it, since we think one can read in the French philosopher a socio-political project that we estimate has been successful in their acceptance, as a foundation for the collective life, very coherent with the rest of his thought, but that it is different of the traditional proposals that are considered in modern political philosophy.
